COA thoughts

  • How do we verify that a COA is real?
    1. That the COA in question was actually issued by the system / that the COA is legit.
    2. That a verified COA matches up with the artwork in question

How do we verify that the COA in question was actually issued by the system / that the COA is legit?

The COAs must be linked to owners. The name of the owner will not be displayed publicly, for privacy purposes. The system will use owner numbers/codes. When someone who has a COA scans the QR code on the COA to verify its authenticity, the owner number displayed on the COA on the site should match up with the owner code of the person who possesses the COA. The seller can show proof of owner code by logging into the system. There will be a function to show it.

Of course, sometimes artworks will get sold without properly registering the sale or transfer of the artwork on the system. This will then necessitate the need for a new authentication process.

How do we verify that a verified COA matches up with the artwork in question?

If a fraudster creates a fake copy of the artwork, they will need to generate a fake COA for it. If they do not have the artwork code, they won't be able to make a fake COA that will match the data on the system.

What if fraudsters get access to the artwork code? If they do get access to the artwork code, and manage to make a fake COA with the correct artwork code, any buyer would be able to tell that it is a fake by asking them to show their owner code by logging into the system.

The system will show the current owner's code, and if it does not match the seller's owner code, then the buyer should call that into question.

If the seller actually is the legitimate owner of a legitimate artwork but just hasn't updated the ownership information, then the buyer can request for a manual authentication process, or request the seller to get in touch with the system admin team

  • Artists can sign up / get access to art retreats

  • Ayni to send briefer/data on art retreats

  • Put the sales to the public functionality, but don’t launch it yet. → reassess after the sit down with Silvana. But position it as not a threat to the galleries.
