When we imagine our lives, part of it is imagining the right kind of people in them. The right friends, who like all the same things as us; the right colleagues, who support our every endeavour; and of course the right partner, who allows us our happily ever after.
We are already very well aware that to get the right circumstances for other parts of our lives, we need to create a life that creates opportunities for those circumstances to unfold. In order to get a job at a law firm, we know we need to go to law school so that we have that degree ready when we see the job we want. In order to climb that mountain, we need to train to be fit.
But what we sometimes overlook is the relationships portion, and no other part is more overlooked than love. We easily list down the qualities we want in a partner - kind, loyal, likes our hobbies, etc. But we don’t always live the live that creates opportunities to meet these kinds of people. Men say they want a woman who will stay at home and take care of the household, yet weekend after weekend find themselves in bars flirting with women of questionable virtue. It is then unsurprising that after years of doing that, they end up marrying a woman who reflects the place where they spent the most time.
